Chapter 8 Reflect on ways to adapting for special learners as explained within the chapter.

Concept maps are very beneficial in general. Some children are visual learners and some are auditory learners.

I used concept maps in grade school and they helped me organize my thoughts. Concept maps help students brainstorm for papers, stories, etc. The program Inspiration helps teachers start concept maps for students. It could also make concept map worksheets so the students dont have to make their own. I also believe it could help teachers test students on certain subjects.

For the visual learners a Concept map could help the students see the problem at hand. They could also see what connects to what. The students can see the problem at hand and usually solve it with a concept map. Students can also learn how to brainstorm different ideas for an English class.

In this class we are learning how to use this program to basically organize our thoughts or learn the properties of a computer as in the difference between software and hardware. We also can visually see where for example a microphone would be classified.

Concept maps can be probaly used for just about any subject. We learned how to arrange the bubbles. We also learned how to make the bubbles pictures instead of just bubbles. We can make it suit just about any subject just by searching for the subject we are looking for.

Chapter 3

I think that some the things that were discussed in this chapter would probably be beneficial to teaching Special Education. Such as the assisted software. Some students would greatly benefit from this software. The scan and read software is really cool I think. I could basically teach a student how to read just by getting them to sit at a computer. I could also test them on what they learned. I dont think it would benefit them if a teacher didnt test them on it because in my eyes they would rememeber anything from that. I also like they IEP software. Being as I right now dont know how to write an IEP that would benefit me and also help me out alot. All in all I like this chapter better than the rest I think.

Chapter 2

I learned today about the hardware of a computer. I now know how to pick out a computer for myself or my classroom. As for this knowledge in the class room I dont really think it would be very beneficial because Special Education students need to know about reading and writing not computers. I honestly dont think they would understand what was going on or what i was talking about for that matter. It just always depends on the child.

Chapter one

Chapter one was a pretty good chapter. It was pretty easy because most of it i already knew about. I never knew about Google Groups though. I think that using the groups would not be beneficial for special needs class because some of them dont really understand. It would be good for keeping in touch with parents and other faculty, at the same time some parents dont have access to a computer or the internet for that matter.
I also liked learning about file management and how to work my flash drive. I also liked learning the short cuts of the keyboard. I know that as a teacher, most schools want us to know about computers and the internet and most teachers dont. Well where I come from they dont.
All in all i learned alot about learning how to put technology into my lesson plans and using it as a resource for teaching. Im not sure how special education students would be able to use it but I can sure try.

All About Me

My name is Amanda Leggett. I am currently finishing my sophomore year as a Special Education major. I am 22 years old. I am also getting married on March 13 Th of this year. This is my first semester here at Southern and I also commute everyday. It is not plesent but I will soon live here. I come from a family of four. We have two cats and a dog. I have one brother who is going to be graduating with a degree in Engineering in December. I hope to one day after I teach for a couple of years get my Master's in Guidance and Counseling. That is my passion. I love to listen to children's problems and their issues. I love little kids and love to hear what is going on with them because once you have a child's trust be sure to never break it.

Today we learned about this website. I think that this website would be useful to talk to parents and discuss back and forth what is coming up in my classroom or school news for that matter. We could discuss alot of things. The one thing that worries me is that legally I could not discuss their child's behavior or their grades over the internet. I would probably get fired for that. Parents would probably ask me how their child is doing and I would have to tell them that I cant discuss that with them unless we have a parent teacher confrenece. That might make some parents mad.
